Printing Photos - The Conundrum
So I recently decided that I want to print some photos of mine.
The idea really was just to see how they look when they are printed (I've only ever printed a book, which appeared ok) and also so I could frame some and also potentially sell some of my work, and gift some prints to people.
There's a lot that I don't know about printing. Primarily about scale/sizing. Also, finish as well. Why would someone choose matte over glossy? If I print them with a white border (to facilitate framing) will it crop a portion of the image for the border, or will it scale the image down a bit to account for the border? The biggest concern of mine is size. My Images are 2800x4800 px (roughly, I'm too lazy to check right now)...
Sizing my prints is tricky. I'd love to do some 8x12's (which, at that resolution is apparently 1:1) but I also wouldn't mind some 4x6's or 5x7's... but I don't know if they scale my images for me, or if I have to send them smaller dimension files.
Then there's concerns over color. With luck they won't adjust color unless required.
Either way, I've got some research to do it seems, just to figure out the things I've mentioned. I'd really love to get some of my work printed out, because there's something about being able to hold a physical print...
