Vancouver Folk Festival + Photography
This year I get to do yet another thing I wouldn't have expected myself to do.
I'll be volunteering my time at the Vancouver Folk Festival. The particular job I'll be volunteering for is being a driver. I'll get to cart around performers, or staff, or possibly attendees. It's kind of a mixed bag. I will have to work 12 hours for the whole weekend (4 hours a day for 3 days most likely)
The bonus to this is I will have unlimited access to the entire festival. Backstage included. This is going to be exciting because I'll be bringing my camera with me, and will hopefully get some great candid photos, as well as performance photos from the festival.
I wanted to volunteer as an event photographer, but they only have a maximum of 8 per year, and well, the same people keep volunteering every year, so unless someone somehow decided they weren't going to do it anymore, well... you can see where that is going.
I would love to do photography for live performances, on top of my other styles that I enjoy. The only snag, you need VERY fast glass to do concert photog for the most part. Usually f/2.8 or better. I have f/1.8's but those are for non-zoom lenses. If money were no object, I'd have a set of f/2.8 telephoto glass already.
On another side note, getting an underwater photography rig is pretty expensive. So this idea of underwater film or underwater photography is going to have to wait a while. That's ok for now I guess.
